Developing the standards for EFL education is a major step towards the Uzbekistan’s vision of an English-speaking nation by 2030. MoPSE experts and Program technical advisors developed a set of EFL standards as the basis of a standards-based curriculum.

Uzbekistan’s education reform envisions a competency-based curriculum consisting of standards, a scope and sequence (S&S), textbooks, and teacher guides that align with an assessment system.

Uzbekistan has embarked on a new phase of English language instruction that will enable students to acquire the skills and competencies necessary for success in the 21st century.

The Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan requested English language series from five renowned international publishers. The EFL technical experts embarked on a exciting journey, immersing themselves in each series.

This early grade reading material is made possible through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Nigeria Reading and Access Research Activity (EdData Task Order Number 26, EHC-E-00-04-00004-00) implemented by RTI International.

The Status of Instruction Study (SIS) aims to shed light on teachers’ knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, skills, and behaviors, as well as the available resources at the school level and for the targeted subjects, and how these resources are used.

The Uzbekistan Education for Excellence Program conducted a multi-phased Status of Instruction Study (SIS1 and 2) to understand the resources available and in use by schoolteachers in Uzbekistan.

The purpose of this panel presentation is to present the results of two uptake studies to understand how mathematics, Uzbek language arts, ICT, and EFL teachers in Uzbekistan are using and applying newly developed teaching and learning materials in the classroom.
